The property was established in 1978 on the former site of McGavin Brewery. one of Dunedins original and at one time. New Zealands largest breweries. The brewery which brewed its last beer in 1958 was re-located to the Speights Brewery in 1971. however to honour the rich history of the site. the stone Oast House a former malting kiln was redeveloped as a conference venue suitable for meetings and weddings of up to 50 people. In addition. the larger McGavin Room can host up to 100 people. Hotel has a comprehensive Pandemic plan. which is Dependent on New Zealand Government directives and level dependent. the plan is effected accordingly to meet standards of Covid lockdown levels 1-4 in line with New Zealand Ministry of Health directives and requirements. All guests. visitors and contractors must be fully vaccinated by 3 December 2021 to be able to stay or visit the hotels. including hotels conference rooms. restaurants. Bars and facilities such as gyms. swimming pool and spa pools. This mandate applies to all Distinction Hotels employees and therefore all staff are required to be single vaccinated by 3 December 2021 and fully vaccinated by 17th January 2022. Our team are supportive of this mandate. as it ensures that all our employees. guests and visitors are kept as safe as possible. All guests. visitors and contractors at entry point must provide verification of vaccination status via the NZ verifier app or a hard copy of your QR code at time of check in or entry to the hotel.
