Restored restyled and right on cue Ruby Leni s returning to her roots. Originally opened as a hotel in 1904 her theatrical potential was quickly spotted and just six years later the building was transformed into the Dusseldorfer Operettenhaus.
In 1951 it became home to the Dusseldorfer Schauspielhaus and led by the legendary Gustav Grundgens quickly made its name as one of Europe s most important and influential theatres. The group s ground-breaking production of Goethe s Faust featuring Grundgens as Mephisto was later filmed with the character of Helena setting the stage for Leni s name.
With such a rich cultural history to draw on our designers were spoilt for choice. While antique props and period styling recall Leni s time in the limelight we ve also taken inspiration from the 60s to today. Retro lines plush fabrics and carefully chosen vintage pieces mingle with artistic modern touches giving every stay a dash of theatrical glamour.
For those in search of an escape from reality Leni s still home to the Forum Freies Theater. In the words of Goethe s Wagner art is long but life is fleeting so be sure to catch a show during your stay.
